The
Difference Between Advertising & Public Relations
|
- Advertising
is guaranteed placement because it is paid for. Publicity,
on the other hand, involves no payment to the media. A
publicist would provide media with information about a news
event or feature story, but it remains up to the media to
determine coverage. Although there is no guarantee of
placement, publicity can be much more cost effective than
advertising. First, you are not paying for a costly ad.
Secondly, when an audience sees an article about your
company in a newspaper, the story carries much more
credibility.
|
- Public
Relations (PR)
is the establishing and promoting of a favorable
relationship with the public. A sub-category of PR is
publicity, which involves the distribution of information
through various media channels in order to attract attention
from the public. PR/Publicity assists in the growth and
acceptance of new products, services, or even ideas.
